TECH TIP: Di2 Wire Pull Hack

all right i'm going to be replacing this di2 wire and on this particular bike i had to remove the bottom bracket in order to access the inside but what i want to show you guys is this neat little trick for making a puller or a chase for di2 wires it's important to never just go ahead and just pull them out of there it's a bad idea okay you what you want to do is you want to you want to attach this to the di2 wire and then pull it through so you can put the new wire on there and then bring it back okay always want to do that now the reason i pointed this out because this is something you probably haven't seen in a while these are being phased out because of hydraulic brakes this is a this is just a regular old brake wire and the reason why i like to use this and what i'm going to do is i'm going to cut this die end off just like that just like that and i'm going to leave just that little tip on there and the reason i'm doing this and the reason i'm using a break wire you can use a shift inner wire for this you know an sis wire but it's not as thick as the brake wire so it's it's it's more flexible and this feeds through a frame a lot better because it's stiff and you can get a magnet on it and drag it through a frame very easily now this is a good old-fashioned five millimeter brake housing end the beauty of these things are they fit over this di2 wire perfectly you see that right there and if you see right here also there's a little rib right there and what i like to do is i'm going to put a little bitty i'm going to put a little bitty divot right in there just like that just a little bit that'll help lock that on there when it gets on there and all i'm going to do is slide this down over this all the way until this die end is captured in here right just like that right now we want to smooth that out a little bit because we don't want that damaging the end of our di2 wire the connection there we go all right now i can go ahead and just push this right on there and then pull this wire through the frame so there you go
